Education at EIGHT BRIDGES

This year again the festival presents not only a host of electrifying concerts but also an array of projects, introductions and workshops introducing people of all ages to the festival's theme.

For example, the musicians from the musikFabrik and Nadar ensembles offer very practical insights into their everyday work and hold workshops to show what rehearsing contemporary music actually means. As part of the fourth "Sing with (the) class!" project, 300 primary school pupils join forces with the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra and stage their own premiere. Under the "CollAge" project banner, pupils will explore the music of Bernd Alois Zimmermann from a variety of perspectives. At one of the Changing Perspectives workshops, participants will directly experience the energy of classical and contemporary compositions through dance. The Writing School returns this year, providing aspiring journalists with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of journalistic writing about contemporary music. A sight-reading rehearsal enables the NRW Youth Orchestra's instrumentalists to dip into Xenakis' compositions, whilst students from the Rhenish Music Academy and members of the "jungekunstfreunde" association discover glimpses of his musical cosmos in a series of exclusive workshops.
